Thesis and dissertation proofreading

Our dissertation proofreading service includes the following:

  • Correct punctuation, spelling and grammar errors, including sytnax and correct word choice
  • Check for inconsistencies in formatting
  • Ensure your chosen reference system is used consistently
  • Ensure your chosen university style guide is followed consistently

Any queries or suggestions will be left as comments alongside the text. We will point out any recurring issues with spellings or wrong word choice, or repetitions.

If the editor feels that substantial changes are required, such as sentence reconstruction, or if sections are unclear, they will leave a comment alongside the text, alerting your attention to this. We will never attempt to rewrite/reconstruct sentences.

Should the editor have queries regarding consistencies in spelling or formatting, they may contact you direct.

Before sending your thesis or dissertation for proofreading, please ensure you carry out a full spell check first. This will eliminate any ambiguity in terms of spelling, meaning, etc.

How is my proofreading returned?

You will then receive two separate versions of your document - a version showing all the editor's corrections in Track Changes in Microsoft Word, and a final (clean) version showing all those changes made.

Which formats do you prefer?

Our preferred format is MS Word, as most of our work is carried out in Track Changes. However, we can also work on other formats such as Adobe PDF, Google Docs, or Open Source.

These days, most universities do encourage students to use the services of a proofreader. However, we would advise that you obtain permission from your department first, just in case!
